Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Fort Worth TX
1254 AM CDT Sun Jul 26 2026

...New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM, AVIATION...

.KEY MESSAGES...

- A Heat Advisory remains in effect across much of North Texas
into eastern Central Texas from 12 PM to 8 PM today.

- Hot and rain-free weather will persist through the upcoming
week with triple digit temperatures becoming more widespread by
  Tuesday.

&&

.SHORT TERM...
(Today and tonight)
Issued at 1246 AM CDT Sun Jul 26 2026

With the upper level ridge staying put on Sunday, expect
increasingly warm and humid conditions to prevail over the end of
the weekend. Under southerly winds and mostly sunny skies,
afternoon high temperatures will peak in the mid 90s to around 102
degrees. Dewpoints in the 60s and 70s will keep peak heat indices
a few degrees above ambient temperatures, ranging between 97 to
109. The current Heat Advisory remains in effect from 12 PM to 8
PM today for most of North Texas and eastern Central Texas. Make
sure to stay cool and hydrated, and avoid excess time outside
during the heat of the day.

&&

.LONG TERM...
(Monday through Saturday)
Issued at 1246 AM CDT Sun Jul 26 2026

For much of this week, expect a rinse-wash-repeat of daily hot
and humid conditions. The upper-level ridge is expected to remain
planted over much of the western and central CONUS, leading to
increasing temperatures and heat indices as we enter the beginning
of August. Afternoon highs will again peak in the upper 90s to
around 104-105 by Tuesday, with heat indices ranging between
100-110 most days. Additional Heat Advisories will be likely each
day through much of this upcoming week, so continue to take
precautions against the heat to avoid heat illness! During the
overnight periods, little relief is in sight as overnight lows
bottom out in the mid 70s to low-mid 80s for much of this
upcoming week.

Long-range guidance continue to show the upper-level trough over
the eastern CONUS digging further south/southwest, shunting the
ridge further into the Desert Southwest over the first few days of
August. With North and Central Texas sandwiched between the ridge
and trough, this may set the stage for a couple of minute
disturbances to move overtop the region, shaving of a few degrees
off of afternoon highs going into next weekend. However, the
latest CPC Day 8-14 Outlook still favors above normal temperatures
through the first week of August. There is still uncertainty on
exact temperatures and whether or not any precipitation will
accompany the disturbances, so continue to check back through this
upcoming week as more details become available.

&&

.AVIATION...
(06Z TAFS)
Issued at 1246 AM CDT Sun Jul 26 2026

Expect fairly decent flying weather over the next 24-30 hours at
all North and Central Texas TAF sites. VFR and southerly winds
around 7- 12 kts will prevail across the region, with some
occasional upper- level cirrus and diurnal cumulus being observed
at/near the airports.
